ABC’s ‘V’ Slams Obama and Pelosi

An amazing thing happened at a recent debut of a much-touted ABC pilot.abcvlogo.jpg

A not-so-subtle message was sent to a large viewing audience.

The targets of the TV communiqué were Democrats in power. If you can believe it, the Obama administration, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, and the Democrats in Congress were smacked by Hollywood on a major television broadcast.

Rather than use the tired old clichés of villainous conservatives, Christians, gun owners or Republicans, the new show “V” went after the current D.C. free-enterprise-destroying agenda, and did so with an interplanetary vengeance.

Sci-fi tales are known as the repository for parables that describe current circumstances in society. Orwell, Huxley, and H.G. Wells wrote social commentary in the form of narrative fantasy. “1984″ was a warning about totalitarianism, “Brave New World” showed the consequences of science without moral limitations, and “War of the Worlds” displayed the danger of complacency.

Dems Protest over Glenn Beck Tribute

Bud Norris didn’t realize what a firestorm he had created.

The Mount Vernon, WA mayor decreed that September 26 would be known as Glenn Beck Day. He also scheduled a ceremony to give Beck a key to the city that the Fox cable host was born in.

“I don’t know if I expected the magnitude of resistance,” Norris told CNN. But he also indicated that he has received “a tremendous amount of positive response.”

Norris has known Beck since Beck’s parents owned a bakery in Mount Vernon. The city official feels as though Beck’s success story should inspire all Mount Vernon residents regardless of their politics.

Evidently, some Dems disagree. Democrat groups have led protests in the city over the Beck salute.

entourage-s34.jpgAmerica has been enamored with the life story of Barack and Michelle Obama.

The mainstream media have repeatedly reminded the public of the couple’s humble origins on Chicago’s South Side and how the two remain in touch with ordinary folks, understanding their suffering in these difficult economic times.

However, the change that was promised by Obama is definitely not reflected in the amount of money being spent on the numerous staffers whose jobs are to fawn over the First Lady.

Even pampered Hollywood celebs, who have entourages that include cooks, clerks and cleaning crews, don’t come close to matching the lengthy list of assistants that the First Lady has.

Taxpayer dollars provide a salary pool of $1.6 million a year for 22 staffers who exclusively work full-time for Michelle; this according to FactCheck.org.

Former First Lady Laura Bush’s staff salary totaled $561,325 per year, according to a salary survey published in the Washington Post in 2004. (FactCheck claims the number is $1.4 million if non-designated staffers are included.)

Republicans were criticized in the past for their “excess,” and that was when economic times were rosier.

But no similar criticism is heard about the Obamas, despite their expensive date nights, extravagant vacations and designer clothing tab.

Guess we should be thankful that there’s at least some job creation going on in the country, even if it’s mainly in the East Wing.

Denzel Washington to Play Obama in Biopic

President Obama has expressed his wish that if a movie were ever made about him, he would want the starring role to be given to Will Smith.

Part of the reason for the Smith preference has to do with the size and shape of both men’s hearing appendages.

Casting, though, is an unpredictable activity particularly when the movie role is that of a current president.

According the U.K. Daily Mail, Smith isn’t going to get the Obama part, but instead it’s going to go to Denzel Washington.

The Oscar winner reportedly wanted the role and Obama has apparently given his approval.

“It was at the President’s suggestion,” Denzel said.

The actor did additionally mention one potential issue that may have to be addressed by the make up artist.

“The only problem is he has bigger ears than me,” Denzel divulged.

Wanda Sykes Us Out

Who chose Wanda Sykes to be the featured comic at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner?

Maybe it was the same person who set up the Scare Force One photo op.

The dinner traditionally dishes out humor at the president’s expense.

But Sykes used her moment in the D.C. spotlight to attack conservatives.

She began her routine with a few jokes about President Obama that were actually not-so-veiled compliments.

Not known for her subtlety, she went on to blast talk radio biggies Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity and toss cow pies at former Vice President Dick Cheney.

Her jabs at Rush were the harshest and most disingenuous and had no place at the time-honored event.

Sykes falsely “joked” that Limbaugh said he hopes America fails, and she accused him of treason.

She recklessly compared Rush’s comments to those of Osama bin Laden and used the #1 talk radio host’s name and “highjacker” in the same lame joke.

She went on to express, as pathetic liberals are prone to do, her desire that he experience life threatening health problems.

For Hannity, she hypocritically encouraged the use on him of what the Left has deemed “torture” and included a snide remark for bad measure.

When it came to Cheney, Sykes hid behind her lazy wisecracks but inadvertently revealed how unoriginal she really is.

Still, the Hollywood, D.C. crowd (which included Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore, Natalie Portman, Jonathan Rhys Myers, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes as well as Brian Williams, Helen Thomas, Barbara Walters, Wolf Blitzer and other mainstream media big shots) chortled approvingly.

And according to Variety, White House senior adviser David Axelrod called Sykes “very entertaining.”

Very insidious is more like it.

Being a celebrity on “Dancing With the Stars” has never been more dangerous.

Singer Jewel and “Access Hollywood” co-host Nancy O’Dell had to leave the show because of dance-related injuries.

“Jackass” star Steve-O and Apple guru Steve Wozniak have courageously hoofed on despite suffering bodily harm due to over-aggressive choreography.

Most recently, “Girls Next Door” star Holly Madison was sent to the doctor to get a prescription for an aching rib. The pain was severe enough to stall her samba.

It seems that one of Hugh Hefner’s ex-girlfriends getting hurt was the final straw, and the Obama administration is now contemplating an intervention.

“With all of the injuries that have occurred this season, the time has come to make decent comprehensive health care for “Dancing with the Stars” contestants a top priority, said an unreliable White House source who refused to be identified.

Rumor has it that the president plans to announce the proposed DWTS legislation in his upcoming appearance on “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Bill and Tony’s Excellent Adventure

Just what we needed, a movie, likely to be jointly produced by HBO and the BBC, called “The Special Relationship,” which will take us on a trip down Memory Lane to a time when our TV sets were filled with Clinton smut.

The “special relationship” apparently refers to the political one between Bill Clinton and Tony Blair and not the “inappropriate” one between little Willie and Monica Lewinsky, although that will supposedly be included, too.

Dennis Quaid will portray the ex-prez and Julianne Moore will play Hillary.

In a hint about how the story will be told, the writer and director is Peter Morgan, the same guy who penned “Frost/Nixon.”

Why can’t Hollywood come up with some more current script ideas, like the story of a man who worked at Freddie Mac, the mortgage entity with an accounting scandal that led to a major management shake-up and huge fines; the story of the same guy being on the board and taking in more than $300 grand for the gig; and the story of a dubious dude who goes on to become chief of staff to the President of the United States.

“Rahmbo,” with a cliffhanger of an ending, would make for a good flick.

Backdoor ‘Fairness’ Doctrine

Recently on the Bill Press radio show, the tens of people who make up the Air America listening audience were treated to Senator Debbie Stabenow and her promise to hold hearings to restore “balance” to the airwaves.

After Press asked whether it was time to bring back the Fairness Doctrine, Stabenow replied, “I think it’s absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it’s called the Fairness Standard, whether it’s called something else – I absolutely think it’s time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves.”

The Michigan senator then babbled about the new prez and his “accountability and transparency,” noting that “in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place.”

Press then pressed her about holding hearings in the U.S. Senate this year, to which she indicated that she would conduct hearings and have radio station owners subpoenaed to testify so that the Senate could determine why people tune in Rush Limbaugh and tune out Air America.

This is just a sneaky way of getting the old Fairness Doctrine back without Dems having to admit what they’re really up to.

Now Obama’s appointees to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) can, on their own, apply to the licenses of radio stations something called “localism” regulations.

The end result of localism will essentially be the same as the suppressive effect of the Fairness Doctrine. The FCC will have the power to revoke a station’s license and will be able to use the strong-arm tactic to control a station’s content.

Stations that would fail to serve “needs of minority groups” in their communities (however selectively defined) would be in danger of license revocation.

To put even greater pressure on station owners, the Obama administration plans to alter the broadcast license renewal period, taking it down from eight years to two.

Obama is on record for being in favor of localism.

The individual in charge of FCC transition matters is Henry Rivera, former chairman of the Minority Media and Telecommunications Council, a known supporter of localism.
